Man of Tai Chi (2013)

This week I'm bringing you Man of Tai Chi. A story of a man's search for the meaning of life. A quest we probably all pursue. Most of us probably do this by experiencing, thinking, and trying. But this is not the story of this man. While we might all have the same goal, everyone walks a different path. The path is the story that's been told here. A path full of darkness and anger. But a path that has to be walked, for this is the only way to reach his goal. This is the story of the Man of Tai Chi.

Sounds deep? Well, it can be deep, and I think it is deep for Keanu Reeves, the director of the movie. It's a shame that - in my opinion - he's not that good at storytelling. Of coarse we all know Keanu from The Matrix, where he easily fights hundreds of guys. An awesome film about that one person and his quest. He kinda stuck to that feeling and it's too bad that this feeling doesn't quite fit the story. Motivations and emotions are different, and where Keanu should've changed he stuck to something he new... a little. Keanu also acts a major role. Also here, I'm not very fond of him. It seems as if he spoke Chinese and was then subbed in English. He has some very bad lines and I guess he was to busy directing that he forgot the contents of some acting classes. But enough about the bad, there's good!

Man of Tai Chi features Chen Lin Hu who plays himself actually. A man who's been caught up in a busy China, surrounded by work and impossible deadlines. While he at first tries to live the good life, his heart eventually fails to suppress the hunger for more. More power, more money. He is then forced to fight. And fighting he can. Man of Tai Chi consists of several great fight scenes and in all of them Chen Lin Hu is BOSS. Please forget the story, enjoy the fights :) Whether he's fighting strong guys, fast guys, two guys, he finds a way to win. The one fight that i definitely will remember is the one with his shifu (played by no one else but Yu Hai - you know him from several kungfu classics including Shaolin Temple). Chen LiN Hu is so awesome that he makes Keanu look so slow and powerless, you'll immediately forget every fight of the matrix.

The choreography of the fights begin a bit sloppy, then build to awesome fights and end in a horrible fight. Thankfully, the beginning and the end are short so you have plenty of time imagining yourself in Chen, copying his moves and wanting to learn or practice tai chi.

Ok, so now that I've pointed out the Yin and the Yang, I'll tell you the verdict: watch the movie. Man of Tai Chi is not in my favorites list, but for the fights I will defiantly remember and recommend it.

And here, specially for you, the link to the full HD movie :) Enjoy!
