I've known this series for a long time already. There are two seasons out and I think I heard about it for over a year ago. I watched the series in Cantonese/Mandarin (although I hardly understood it) and still enjoyed it. BUT I found out that someone posted a version with english subtitles (yay!). Now it's even better!
Kung Fu Quest tries to bring an authentic image of Chinese martial arts. As some of you might know, the Chinese martial arts are very broad and it is said that most modern day styles inherited some of China's most famous boxing styles. Also, China isn't a small country, and in every province had a key style of fighting. Also, where many fighting systems are based on mostly fist fights, you'll find a wide variety in weapons in China. From broadswords to spears, from chains to sticks, it's all there. This makes the Chinese martial arts very complex and very difficult to understand. If you're looking for a kungfu style to practice and aren't sure which one suites you best, this series will help you a lot! It gives a very clear introduction to China's most famous martial art systems.
Both seasons hold 5 episodes in which a practitioner seeks out a master of a certain style he interests. The master then explains the core essence of his fighting system and then teaches some of it. Sounds familiar? Well America had a similar series called Fight Quest. Sounds familiar? Well, obviously one was based on the other. But I somehow feel that Kungfu Quest is more authentic. If an American would go to a Chinese master, not all the essence and philosophies are presented the way they were intended because of a language barrier plus the fact that a Chinese master wouldn't just tell all his 'secrets' just like that to a foreigner. If a Chinese would ask a Chinese master, it's presented much clearer and more genuine. This is why I like the series so much.
I put links to all the episodes below. Enjoy it!
